About the Event
Join us for an afternoon of listening, as participants to explore field recording and listening as a form of ecological care and a powerful way to connect deeply with the natural world around us.
We'll explore listening as a process of re-rooting within our ecosystems and building relationships with non-humxn kin, and how the sounds of the land can both nourish and inspire us. Participants will learn listening techniques, the basics of sound energy, how to field record, and how to cultivate collaborative co-creative relationships with the forest and non-humxn kin. The workshop will include an easy hike into the local forest to practice field recording. Teens and adults are welcome.
No experience with field recording or fancy equipment is necessary. For this workshop participants will need a phone or recording device (such as a portable digital recorder), a pair of headphones or earbuds and walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing for light hiking.
Zaneta (they/them) is a sound ritualist, listening educator, and interdisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn. Their work focuses on listening as spiritual ecological care, and how sound brings us into deeper connection and healing with the natural world.
